The Yong Kee Jeon Award

This award is given in recognition of contribution to the Discipline of Family Medicine of Memorial University of Newfoundland.  The award will be chosen by the full-time faculty of the Discipline of Family Medicine of Memorial University and will be awarded to part-time or full-time faculty members who are family physicians.

The following criteria are considered in giving this award:

  1. Excellence in teaching Family Medicine residents;
  2. Contribution to the Discipline of Family Medicine, either inistratively or in time to residents;
  3. Participation in teaching activities of the Discipline of Family Medicine such as the Rural Family Medicine Teachers Meeting, the Rural Fair, Educational Teleconference Rounds or Resident Interviews or other such activities that may develop in the future.

This award is given in honour of Dr. Yong Kee Jeon, a family physician in Brookfield, Newfoundland, who contributed over 20 years to the rural community of Brookfield, as well as to teaching residents within the Family Medicine Program.  His keenness to be involved, his regular attendance at meetings and feedback from the residents on the excellence of his teaching all make it very worthwhile that this award should be named after him.

The Craig Lovey Teaching Award

This award is chosen by the full time faculty of the Discipline of Family Medicine and is awarded to full or part-time specialist faculty members for excellence in the teaching of Family medicine Residents.

The following criteria are considered in giving the award:

  • Excellence in teaching family medicine residents – this may be learned through feedback from residents, feedback from clinical colleagues, demonstration by residents of knowledge learned at a teaching site, among others.
  • Contribution to the Discipline of Family Medicine either administratively or in time to residents.
  • Participation in teaching activities of the Discipline of Family Medicine such as Core Content Workshops, Resident Interviews or other activities that may develop.
  • An exemplary physician as demonstrated through his/her practice and actions.
